PARENTING

Hi,
Today I have chosen to give a message about parenting. I'm a parent too and I love being a parent, it's wonderful being a parent but  sometimes it's  full of challenges. The good thing is we can learn everyday  on how to improve parenting skills, because parenting is like a full time job . You can read the following tips, they might be useful in improving parenting skills.

Be a role model
Understand that, you are responsible for the example you set for your children, as parents we are our children first role model, pay attention to what you do or say around them.

Avoid favoritis
Surveys have shown that most parents have favorites, but most children believe that they are the favorite , if children are quarreling , don't choose sides but be fair and neutral.

Avoid public humiliation
If  they misbehave in public, take them aside and scold them privately.

Avoid criticism Of the child  but focus on the behaviour instead
When your child acts out in a harmful manner, tell him or her that such behavior is not acceptable and suggest alternatives. Avoid statements such as ,"you're bad", "go away", etc.

Improve your child social skills
Express your love and affection
Little encouragement, appreciation, approval or even smile can boost the confidence and the well being of your children. Let them know that you will always love them no matter what.

Praise your children
Avoid comparing your child to others, each child is individual and unique, failure to do so may give your child an inferiority complex, an idea that they can never be good enough in your eyes.

So parenting doesn't  stop when a child grows up. Being a parent remains a life-long role, but remember that once they become adults, the decisions they make in life are ultimately theirs with their consequences.

BEAUTY TIPS FOR BLACK WOMEN

Black is beautiful and everyone loves that sun-kissed tone. The flawless and dusky radiance just enchants the viewers. It gets noticed more if taken care a bit. Just keep it as simple and natural to be yourself. Nude and transparent make up would speak out effortlessly and they look the best on a darker complexion.
Just besides regular cleaning, moisturizing and sun-screening, beauty with black skin needs to pamper it with plentiful water, exercise and healthy food. Milk and whole grain cereals being good for glowing skin, you should include honey and yoghurt as a regular diet regime.
Remember to use a sunscreen with SPF 15. As spots stand out more in such complexion, you must use spot-concealers to hide away those dark spots. Never apply the foundation throughout your face. Instead highlight the most attractive feature to grab attention. Shades such as purple, mauve and dark pink which blend with the skin tone are the best to be given a shot. Use a blush of darker shade than your skin shade; it would add luster and smoothing hue to your skin tone.
Use lipstick of matte finish rather than glossy one. While coffees, nude pinks, burgundy and chocolate lip colors suit your skin tone; shades like browns and plums just look stunning on your features. Go for a liquid foundation as it is best suited for your skin type. Distilled water should be mixed well before applying over the face and contours. Mascara with natural colour is preferable. Eyeliner should be grey or brown. Apply some translucent powder on your eye shadow for subtleness and silky effect. For highlighting your cheek bones, opt a bronzer rather than a blusher.
Just the little efforts putting in right place makes you admiringly noticeable!

WEEKEND FUN IDEAS

In many countries weekend is a two days break, that's Saturday and Sunday. Weekend is good chance for entertaining your self  after going to work or school for the whole week, there are a lot of  fun activities to do on weekend with friends or family, or with your partner  or by your self, both indoor and out door activities.

Here are some of the activities to get you inspired;

  • Go to the beach, for those who live in hot climate this is perfect, for others just wait till winter is over, you can go with you family or invite your friends, pack your sandwiches and drinks. You can swim, have a picnic, play volley ball and sand castle building, etc.

  • Seduce your partner, really, is there any way to really have fun than that for free? It's fun, romantic, great exercise , and can really help heal any relationship problems you might be having. An afternoon in your partner's arms will make both of you fell better, and it won't cost a penny.(by Trent,simpledollar.com)

  • Go to the shopping alone or with friends.

  • Invite your friends over, have a barbecue or cook lunch/dinner, watch a movie and enjoy your weekend.

  • Hanging around and talking with friends.

  • Go to eat in a Restaurant, try a new place and try a new menu.

TIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Learn how to have a happy and successful college career.
   By Stephanie Sarkis, Ph.D.

  • Always attend the *real* class, and use the Internet one for review.
  •  If you are not a morning person, don't schedule classes for 7am. You will not go.
  •  Too much socializing = bad grades. Everything in moderation
  • Sit near the front of class. Attend the whole class. Even if you feel like you will just die if you sit there any longer. Even if you feel your brain start to ooze out the side of your ear. Because we (professors) sometimes give really important info at the end of class.
  • Don't do anything stupid (read: illegal). It will go down on your permanent record. Seriously. At every college you apply to after this one.

  • If you are doing laundry on campus or at a laundromat, stay with your clothes. Otherwise they may walk off while you are gone.
  • I can't emphasize this enough: INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO YOUR PROFESSORS AND GO TO THEIR OFFICE HOURS. This is so important, I'll tell it to you again: INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO YOUR PROFESSORS AND GO TO THEIR OFFICE HOURS. We're nice people. Seriously. And we really like it when someone is interested in our classes.
  •  For the love of God, please, please do not leave candles burning in your dorm room or apartment. Or those incense burning thingies. Bad things happen when those are left on.
  • Use condoms. Every time.
  • Long-distance relationships are a challenge to keep up when you are away at school.
  • Just because you and your roommate were friends back home doesn't mean you will be compatible roommates. You find out new things about people when you are sharing a small space. But you can work it out. Even if you and your roommate are total strangers and are completely different - you may become great friends.
  • If your roommate is doing something that bothers you, ask yourself the following three questions: 1) Am I being reasonable in being bothered by this? 2) What's the best way to talk to my roommate about this? 3) What are some solutions to this issue? If all else fails and the issue is very important to you and you've talked to your roommate to no avail, talk to your Resident Assistant.

  •  Study groups can be helpful - but keep it to between 3 and 5 members (including you). More than that, and it turns into a social event.

IT'S NOT HOW GOOD YOU ARE, IT'S HOW GOOD YOU WANT TO BE

It's not how good you are, It's how good you want to be. It's the book that I'm reading this week, for the record  this book is small, easy to understand and it doesn't cost a fortune, you can  just get it  by only $ 8.95.

Whether you are a school leaver, self employed or a managing director, this book is invaluable for everyone who aspires to succeed.

Now I like to show you the opening words of the book.

Here are the two messages I want to share with you today from the book;

DO NOT SEEK PRAISE. SEEK CRITICISM (pg. 26)

It is quite easy to get approval if we ask enough people, or if we ask  those who are likely to tell us what we want to hear.

The likelihood is that they will say nice things rather than to be critical. Also, we tend to edit out the  bad so that we hear only what we want to hear.

So if you have produced a pleasantly acceptable piece of work, you will have proved to yourself that it's good simply because others have said so.

It is probably ok. But then it's not great either.

If, instead of seeking approval, you ask, 'What's wrong with it? How can I make it better?', you are more likely to get a truthful critical answer. You may even get an improvement on your idea.

And you are still in a position to reject the criticism if you think it is wrong.

DON'T LOOK FOR THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY. THE ONE YOU HAVE IN HAND IS THE OPPORTUNITY.

We are always waiting for the perfect brief  from the perfect client.

It almost never happens.

You're probably working on a job or a project right now and saying , 'This is boring, let's just deal with it and get it over with. We'll make next one good.'

Whatever is on your desk right now, that's the one. Make best you possibly can.

It may not be great, but at least you'll have the satisfaction  of knowing you did the best you possibly could, and you may learn something from it.

And you're always free to do an alternative that does satisfy your creative standards.

Good briefs don't just come along.

That's true, even if you've earned a reputation for doing good work (although that helps).

Successful solutions are often made by people rebelling against bad briefs.

I have found this book very interesting and educative. Get your copy from Amazon.com. What do you think?

NEVER ASSUME

“Never assume that the person you are dealing with is weaker or less important than you are. Some people are slow to take offense, which may make you misjudge the thickness of their skin, and fail to worry about insulting them. But should you offend their honor and their pride, they will overwhelm you with a violence that seems sudden and extreme given their slowness to anger. If you want to turn people down, it is best to do so politely and respectfully, even if you feel their request is impudent or their offer ridiculous.”

WORKAHOLIC (WORK ADDICTION)

Workaholic is a person who is addicted  to work, S/he puts work before personal life. The addiction is so consuming  it prevents a workaholic from maintaining healthy interpersonal relationship, outside interests, and even caring for themselves.

Signs for workaholic according to Dr.Karyn Gordon;
  • You cannot stop thinking about work
  • Your relationship are negatively affected, studies have shown that a partnership with a workaholic is twice as likely to end in divorce
  • Your social life is ignored , there is no balance between work and fun
  • You have difficulty sleeping
  • You skip meal because of works
  • You see relexation as a waste of time
  • You have difficulty delegating tasks to others
  • Other people tell you, "you are a workaholic"
I like to tell you one simple defference between a hard worker and a workaholic;
Hard worker, know how to set limits upon their work in order to be present for family, friends, social activities and etc.
Workaholic, allow work to take top priority over all areas of life, any commitments to marriage, children, friends are broken to meet work demands.

To be a hard worker, or working for overtime, overworking sometime is not bad; but when work control your life and creates problems with your relationships, your health( because workaholism  ia a burden to your health physicaly, emotionaly, and mentaly), and happiness. Then it's a time to evaluate your self.

You can do the following if you want to stop work addiction;
  • Don't allow work to interfere your personal life, a human being is a social animal, you need to spend time with close people in your life, time for resting and relaxation and taking care of your own health.

  • Don't skip meals and sleep well, you need to eat well balance food on time, and getting enough sleep it is vital for your health  and to getting the energy to work otherwise you will be sick.

  • Stick to office schedule, when it's time to go home do so, work according  to the hours your employer demands, if possible don't take your work at home.

  • Get involved in fun activities, exciting events etc, meet new friends and create social life.

  • If your addiction is horrible seek professional help from counsellor ,psychotherapist etc
                LOVE  YOURSELF AND TAKE CARE

ENCOURAGING BIBLE VERSES

No matter what problems you have right now. The Lord of our Jesus Christ knows them and God cares for you. Below are the encouraging bible verses,  for comforting and encouraging you in difficult times. Read these verses and use them in you pray, God is always faithful, God will help you. Share them to someone you know, who also needs comfort and encouraging words.

Isaiah 41:10
'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?

Philippians 4:19
And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 'And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 17:7-8
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. "For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit.
Psalm 9:9-10
The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble, And those who know Thy name will put their trust in Thee; For Thou, O LORD, hast not forsaken those who seek Thee.
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Romans 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
